Lab Description:
The Surgical Planning Laboratory is a research laboratory in the Department
of Radiology of Brigham and Women's Hospital. The core mission of the SPL is
the extraction of medically relevant information from diagnostic imaging
data and to introduce concepts of computation and image analysis to new
field of biomedical research. The lab collaborates with groups within
Brigham and Women's Hospital, with other researchers at the Harvard Medical
School, with local universities such as Harvard and MIT, and with
clinicians, researchers, and engineers throughout the world.


Position: 
Postdoctoral research scholar in Medical Robotics


Job Description:
The SPL has an opening for a postdoctoral research scholar in the field of
Medical Robotics. You will have the opportunity to collaborate and work
closely with highly motivated surgeons, radiologists and computer scientists
for developing solutions to real-world clinical problems. You will also have
the opportunity of observing surgical procedures in the state-of-the-art
operating room called the Advanced Multimodality Image-guided Operating
(AMIGO) suite and learn about the clinical workflow and surgical setup to
identify potential pitfalls while developing the technical solutions. Our
team has a strong publication record in leading journals and conferences.


Responsibilities:
•	Design and develop novel steerable and soft robotic devices and
manipulators for enabling remote access to anatomy
•	Develop novel sensing devices for obtaining real-time, in-vivo data
•	Design and develop control algorithms to perform haptics-enabled
teleoperated procedures
•	Work closely with surgeons and radiologists to understand the clinical
problem and conduct clinical trials
•	Publish in high impact journals to disseminate results
•	Attend clinical procedures in AMIGO 

Qualifications:
•	Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer
Science.
•	Strong experience in developing robotic devices
•	Graduate research courses in Robotics, Control Systems, Mechanical Design
and Image processing
•	Experience with SolidWorks, Pro-E, AutoCAD or CATIA
•	Should be adept in coding in C++, Python, Java, MATLAB
