The Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence at the Technical
University of Munich is looking for outstanding applicants for PhD positions
in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Research Assistant (PhD position) - Design and development of a sensitive
human-like robot hand for manipulation and interaction with the environment

*About us*
Technical University of Munich (TUM) is one of Europe’s top universities. It
is committed to excellence in research and teaching, interdisciplinary
education, and the active promotion of promising young scientists. The
Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MSRM) at the Technical
University of Munich is an integrative research center in the field of
machine intelligence. Its purpose is to address fundamental research in
robotics, perception and artificial intelligence to develop innovative and
sustainable technological solutions for significant challenges of our time.
To this end, MSRM will be one of the world's leading research institutes in
robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. The first lighthouse
initiative of the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence on the
topic of "Geriatronics - Assistant Robotics for Self-Determined Living in
Old Age" was launched in 2018. At an early stage, the project is carried out
by a group of young and motivated scientists who evaluate their research
results in close connection with local senior citizens and healthcare
institutions. The aim is to enable the self-determination and independence
of seniors in old age.

*What we offer?*
We offer a diverse work environment with personal responsibility and
creative freedom. An extensive experimental infrastructure for the
development of new ideas is available. We support close interaction with
national and international scientists to make a highly dynamic working
environment. The positions are initially limited to two years and are
remunerated according to level E13 (100%). Our Geriatronics research center
is located in the heart of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which has been
world-widely renowned for its impressive mountains and sport-related events
and competitions. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located at the foot of the Alps,
approximately 90km south of Munich (1h by car, 1.5h by train) and is easily
reachable from Munich. The Garmisch-Partenkirchen region provides a unique
research platform with an excellent network of local clinics, doctors and
nursing facilities.

*Tasks*
Design and development of a sensitive human-like robot hand for manipulation
and interaction with the environment with focus on the following areas:
• Mechanical design
• Modelling, structure analysis and kinematic simulation
• Design, selection and integration of components into mechatronic systems
• Software design

*Requirement*
Applicants should have a master’s degree or the equivalent in electrical
engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, biomechanics or
related fields.

*Application*
Please send us your complete application documents (CV, certificates, cover
letter) via email to: applications at msrm.tum.de quoting “Geriatronics -
Application” in the e-mail subject line by 31.05.2019 at the latest.
