Great societal challenges like food shortage, loss of biodiversity, and
population ageing, could stand to benefit greatly from the introduction of
sustainable robotic solutions for smart farming, animal surveying, and
elder care. At the same time, the advent of the trillion sensor era, and
the resulting digitization of our urban, rural and coastal spaces, is
opening up a new possibility on how these robotic solutions could be
developed, deployed, and utilized to address those societal challenges, to
drive economic growth, and ultimately to improve the quality of human life.

This workshop aims to bring together researchers from across disciplines
that work on novel ways to develop robots that go beyond traditional
programming techniques, beyond the need to situate and train robots in the
real world before their deployment, and beyond the requirement of
separating them from humans for safety reasons. We welcome, in particular,
work on developing/testing/optimizing robot capabilities in "digital twin"
versions of physical environments, or in synthetic virtual words with
realistic conditions (e.g., photorealism, turbulent air flows, etc.).

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Robot system development in digital environments
* Mission planning using digital twins
* Mission rehearsal & operator training in synthetic environments
* Learning robot controllers using virtual environments and simulators
* Ideas to bridge the reality gap and simulation to reality transfer
* Using video games and virtual environments to teach skills to robots
* Shared autonomy and teleoperation in digital twins
* Human-robot collaboration in virtual and real-world environments
* Robots (e.g., assistive, social, educational) for smart homes, hospitals,
museums and schools
* Robotics in manufacturing logistics
* Robotics for inspection and monitoring (e.g., farms, forests, sewage
systems, factories, underwater pipelines and cables, marine structures,
archaeological sites, mining)
* Robotics in agriculture and aquaculture (e.g., robotic equipment for
sustainable farming, soft manipulation for fruit picking)
* Networked robots in digital and smart environments
* Aspects of human-robot interaction, control, localization, motion and
task planning in various robot types (e.g., aerial, wheeled, legged,
underground, underwater) in digital and smart environments.

All contributions will be peer-reviewed. Accepted full papers (10-15 pages)
will be published in the Springer book series "Progress in IS" [link:
